Report submitted by Bromsgrove Sporting

A second half strike from Nathan Hayward helped guide Bromsgrove Sporting to a 1-0 win over Hitchin Town.

The midfielder unleashed a left footed effort from the edge of the box just shy of the hour mark, as Sporting extended their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions writes Max Banner.

The first half was devoid of any big chances until the 27th minute, when Miro Pais hit the post from the outskirts of the penalty box.

Hitchin nearly took the lead with 10 minutes of the half remaining, but Luke Brown was unable to capitalise on some sloppy Sporting defence, shooting wide from a good position.

The deadlock was broken 59 minutes in, as Hayward beat two men and drove home from 20 yards with a cracker.

The visitors enjoyed some pressure midway through the half, with Brown having a shot blocked before Joel Kettle miraculously cleared two further efforts off the line.

The 76th minute saw Leon Broadhurst send a diving header wide of the mark. Seven minutes later, he had a firmly struck free kick brilliantly saved by the Canaries' Charlie Horlock.

Brown and Callum Stead had two of many chances in the final few moments, but a resolute Sporting defence stood firm, courtesy of some tremendous blocks.
