A FUNDRAISER has been launched for a farmer after 425 hay bales went up in flames in Kidderminster.

Following the blaze at farmland in Low Habberley, horse rider Tamara Green decided to set up a GoFundMe page.

She claims the farmer has "lost thousands" in the fire which broke out on Sunday, September 19, and has set a target of raising £1,000.

The fundraiser was launched earlier today (Monday, September 20) and has already raised more than £100.

On her GoFundMe page Tamara posted: "The money will be given to him to help the money he has lost. The target I have set is nowhere near what he lost but would go some way to help him.

"Let's all pull together and help."

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "The incident involved around 425 large bales of hay which were well alight.

"The fire was fought using two hosereel jets with a further two hosereel jets standing by to protect adjacent barns.

"The water supply was augmented from street mains and the water carrier.

"Western Power also attended due to overhead power lines being in close proximity to the fire. The incident was then scaled back to one pump to cool adjacent building with one hosereel jet while farm machinery was used to turn over straw."
