AN outbreak of Covid-19 and cases of diarrhoea and vomiting caused a Bewdley school to close.

Public Health is currently working to put in place extra safety measures at Bewdley Primary School, which was closed last week.

The school has undergone a deep clean to reduce the chance of further spread.

Liz Altay, deputy director of Public Health for Worcestershire, said: “We have been advised of a number of positive Covid-19 tests at Bewdley Primary School.

"The school has also had cases of diarrhoea and vomiting. Public Health Worcestershire and Public Health England are working closely with the school to put in extra measures.

"Current Covid-19 cases have been identified and asked to self-isolate.

"We encourage anyone who is displaying symptoms of Covid-19 to self-isolate and book a PCR test.

"Anyone who experienced diarrhoea and/or vomiting has been asked to stay off school or work until they have been symptom-free for at least 2 days.

"The school's governing body took the decision to close on Friday 17th September.

"This was to ensure that the school was cleaned thoroughly over the weekend and also to reduce the chance of further spread of the D and V virus, so they would be ready to open on Monday 20th September.

"Year 4 and Year 6 have moved to remote learning until 30th September.

"This is to protect and enhance the current learning environment due to the numbers of pupils and staff testing positive, whilst reducing the risk of further spread within these age groups.

"The school has, and continues to, follow all the guidance that it has been given.”
