STAFF at a Stourport school are currently self-isolating following an outbreak of coronavirus.

Wilden All Saints CE Primary School remains open, however the virus has been causing disruptions and complications.

Afterschool clubs have been suspended at the school and all events have been cancelled, including their harvest festival.

Executive headteacher Caroline Unitt said: “We currently have 13 staff off, including four teachers and three support staff with symptoms, which equates to 42 per cent of all staff who work in classes.

“We had to close the nursery yesterday because one teacher and three nursery support assistants tested positive for covid-19.

“We had no alternative but to close the reception class for one day last Friday, and although it has not been without complications, we are absolutely fine, all classes have been covered and staff will start to return next week."

She added: "We have had support from Public Health and the local outbreak response team and have been told our infection control is excellent.

“We currently have two children off with the virus and all classes have been kept in bubbles this week.

"Our after-school clubs have been suspended and our wrapround care has been closed this week and will re-open on Monday October 4.

Under the circumstances, all events have been cancelled, including our harvest festival.”

Liz Altay, Deputy Director of Public Health for Worcestershire, said: “We have been advised of a number of positive Covid-19 tests at Wilden All Saints CE Primary School in Stourport. Public Health Worcestershire and Public Health England are working closely with the school to put in extra measures. The school remains open. Current Covid-19 cases have been identified and asked to self-isolate and we encourage anyone who is displaying symptoms of Covid-19 to self-isolate and book a PCR test. ”

We previously reported how Bewdley Primary School was similarly hit with an outbreak of Covid-19 - which caused the school to close.
