THE family of Megan Smith has set a funeral date for their "beautiful girl" now her body has been returned to Kidderminster from the US.

The Smith family has said the celebration of her life will fulfill one of Megan's final wishes - to throw "the biggest party Kidderminster has ever seen."

The inspirational 27-year-old died last month in San Diego where she was receiving pioneering treatment for a rare form of cancer. Her mum Shirley, dad Pete and brother PJ were by her side.

Following Megan's passing, a fundraiser was started to help bring her body back home to Kidderminster - which raised £4,000.

The family has invited the community to attend the funeral - which will be held on October 20.

People will be able to meet at the family home from 10am at Walter Nash Road, Kidderminster. The service will take place at St Mary’s Church in Kidderminster at 12pm. Megan’s final resting place will then be at Wyre Forest Crematorium.

A celebration will then take place at the Port House in Stourport afterwards.

Shirley Smith posted on Facebook: "Lets make this a very special day, one of Meg’s final wishes was to have the biggest party Kidderminster has ever seen and this she will have.

"Thanks to each and every one of you for all your love and support throughout Megan’s journey. Let’s give her support one last time.

Megan's sister Terri Smith said: "One of the last things Megan said to me was she wanted to have a massive party when she returned home.

"We're going to have a massive celebration of her life.

"She absolutely loved to party - we are going to give her that one last big party."

Terri also said the family hopes to set up a charity in Megan's name in the future - supporting young people with bowel cancer and their families.
