POLICE are warning people in Cookley to be on their guard after receiving reports of a man approaching people asking for money to get to hospital to visit his sick father.
Wyre Forest Police said the man has approached several people asking for money to either get home or to the hospital.
They suspect he could be a scammer.
A spokesman said: "We would ask people to ensure that before they give out any money they are satisfied that this male is genuine with his request.
"Police have dealt with similar incidents in the past where kind hearted members of the public have given money to people in these circumstances only to find the person asking was not genuinely in need and they have then become a victim of crime."
Anyone with information can call police on 101 or email West Mercia Police online.
