MOURNERS from across the country and beyond will pay their respects to a popular Stourport man at a funeral on Monday (October 25).

The town will bid farewell to farmer and "big family man" Edward Griffin Jones, who died at the age of 88 on September 29, 2021.

One of Mr Jones' 42 grandchildren, James Doe, has described his late grandfather as a "well known, proud gypsy man" who was "loved by many."

Mr Jones was born in Shropshire and has a twin brother named Thomas.

The father of eight travelled all around Wales and England working on the land and harvesting crops. His mother was welsh and he was proud of his heritage.

He became a well known among the traveller community in Stourport, according to his family.

His grandson James said: "He loved his horses and loved dogs. His wife Betty passed away 20 years ago. Edward had 42 grandkids and was loved by them all.

"In his later years he sadly had dementia and we want to thank the NHS carers for all that they did and all the help.

"It's going to going to be a very big event."

The family has invited people to join them at Lower Heath Caravan Park, Mr Jones' home, from 10am on Monday.

A horse and carriage will transport Mr Jones' coffin through Stourport town and to St James' Church at Hartlebury (DY11 7TE) for a funeral service at 11am.

Mr Jones' burial will then be at St Mary's Church at Bishop Wood (DY13 9SQ) at 1pm.

James expects friends and family from across England, Scotland and Ireland to attend the funeral.
