WORK is set to finally restart at a troubled medical centre in Stourport after construction ground to a halt months ago.

In early August, dozens of workers lost their jobs when building contractor Arthur M Griffiths (AMG) went into administration.

The collapsed firm was appointed to build the new £7 million medical centre on Dunley Road, which will replace the Stourport Health Centre and York House Medical Centre.

In March, Wyre Forest Health Partnership celebrated reaching the half-way point of the development and hoped to welcome patients this Autumn.

But construction work on the centre was halted as property developers gbpartnerships searched for a new contractor.

Now, Midlands-based contractor Key Construction will continue the work on the medical centre from November 1.

The project is now due to be completed by late Spring 2022.
Work was also delayed previously this year following an industry wide problem with supplies for essential materials.

On Facebook, Stourport Medical Centre posted: "We are excited to inform you that a contractor has been found to complete our new surgery.

"Work will start on site on Monday 1st November with completion hoped for late spring 2022.

"The Team here at SMC are absolutely delighted and would like to thank gbpartnerships for working so hard to get a new contractor in place so quickly."

Clare Nock, chief executive at Wyre Forest Health Partnership, said she was disappointed about the delays, but has praised the developers for their hard work.

She said: "There was no question that the building would be completed, it was just the challenge of pulling it all together.

"We are grateful for the hard work put in by gbpartnerships and the CCG.

"The builder and developer have worked up a program of works which timetables the build from now until completion. We are leaving it in their capable hands."
