THE Chief Constable of West Mercia Police remains tight-lipped over an incident where a terminally ill man was wrestled to the ground by officers after mooning at a speed camera.

Kidderminster resident Darrell Meekcom was brought to the ground in his garden after six police raided his home and arrested him on suspicion of indecent exposure earlier this month.

The 55-year-old, who was released on police bail, said he felt "abused" by the force and that their response was "completely disproportionate in the circumstances."

When quizzed over the incident in Kidderminster earlier today, Chief Constable Pippa Mills told The Shuttle: “I can’t comment on that case because it’s subject to a complaint that’s been put to the Independent Office for Police Conduct and obviously subject to a criminal investigation as well in terms of the reason the officers were at the scene.

“It’s a criminal investigation first and foremost and subject to a complaint.”

Chief Constable Pippa Mills also added she would welcome the opportunity to speak about the incident “once it’s all resolved.”

The mooning incident inspired graffiti artist Rebel Bear, dubbed the 'Scottish Banksy', to paint a mural in the town.
