A COUNTY Aston Villa fan is due in court for throwing a flare onto the pitch during a Premier League game.

Lee Edwards-Williams is said to have thrown the flare during Villa's 2-1 away triumph against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park late last month, with goals from Matt Targett and John McGinn securing the three-points on the day.

The 33-year-old of Severn Way, Bewdley is facing two charges, one for throwing a missile onto a football playing area and another for possessing a firework or flare at a sporting event.

He will appear at Croydon Magistrates' Court for his first hearing tomorrow (Tuesday, December 14).

If found guilty, Edwards-Williams could face a three-month prison sentence.
Magistrates can also issue a football banning order, which will likely be for between three and six years, in addition to any other sentence, stopping an offender from going to football matches for a set period of time.
