WORK is well underway to convert part of the Granary Hotel site in Shenstone into new homes.

Planning approval was previously granted for new bungalows to be built and hotel rooms to be converted into new residential homes off Heath Lane.

Initially nine new homes were planned for the site, but an amended application for seven has now been lodged, which includes two bungalows.

The Granary Hotel and Restaurant, as well as its function rooms, are fully open and they have confirmed that new hotel rooms are set to open soon.

The Granary has been running for more than 40 years after opening as a carvery restaurant in 1978.

West Midlands Contractors Ltd are developing the residential site, with the construction progressing well.

A spokesperson for the company said: "We are progressing very quickly. Two will be on the market by Easter."

Work started on the new homes in November last year.
