HOMES and businesses in Bewdley can now apply for funding following last month's devastating flooding.

Worcestershire County Council has now opened its Local Flood Relief Scheme so eligible residents and businesses can now apply for financial help following the February floods.

Floods hit several parts of the county last month including Beales Corner in Bewdley.

The Flood Relief Scheme will give residents and tenants who have seen habitable areas of their homes damaged in the floods access to a one-off goodwill payment of £250 to help them get back on their feet.
Businesses affected by the floodwaters will also be able to claim a one-off payment of £1,000.

It is currently estimated that around 170 to 200 properties in Worcestershire have been affected by the floodwaters.

Councillor Simon Geraghty, Leader of Worcestershire County Council, hopes the new funding will help those left devastated by the flooding.

He said: “I’m pleased that the Flood Relief Scheme that we announced on Friday is now open for residents and businesses to apply for funding.

“The County Council recognises how devastating these floods have been for people and especially as the same areas flooded only a few years ago.

“We hope that this new funding will go some way towards helping with the clean-up and recovery costs for people.”
