A PLAN to convert an 18th century Bewdley workhouse into new homes has been given the green light.

The Grade II Listed former workhouse off High Street dates back to 1736, and was later used as Humpherson's Horn Factory.

An application was previously lodged to convert the dilapidated building into three large houses.

Listed building consent was previously issued to allow the applicant to protect the building by making the roof watertight as it is "rapidly deteriorating".

Now, full planning permission has been granted by Wyre Forest District Council.

The planning officer said: “The proposed scheme is in accordance with all the relevant policies of the Adopted Site Allocations and Policies Local Plan and Adopted Wyre Forest District Core Strategy which both seek to preserve the character and appearance of listed buildings and conservation areas and ensure that proposals secure a long term viable use of historic buildings and appropriate design.”
