FIREFIGHTERS rushed to Kidderminster town centre to battle a blaze that broke out in a flat.

The kitchen of a second-floor flat on Blackwell Street caught fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning (May 10).

Dramatic scenes of the fire were filmed and shared on social media.

Fire crews from Wyre Forest, Bromsgrove, and Hereford fought the flames. The fire was extinguished using a hose reel jet.

An aerial ladder platform was used to check the roof for any signs of fire spreading.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated the flat.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.41am to reports of a fire on Blackwell Street, Kidderminster.

"Two paramedic officers attended. Upon arrival we found two patients.

"Both were assessed and had sustained injuries believed to be minor.

"They received self-care advice and were discharged at the scene.”
