POLICE have described an armed robbery at Matalan in Kidderminster as a “horrific ordeal” for staff members.

On Saturday, April 9 at the Matalan store in Park Butts Ringway staff were threatened and shoppers were left shocked following an armed robbery.

Two men have been convicted after admitting several charges relating to the incident.

At Worcester Crown Court on Monday, May 9, Stephen Soley, aged 37 and Dean Buckley, aged 45 pleaded guilty to armed robbery, theft from a motor vehicle, possessing an imitation firearm whilst committing a section 1 offence and possessing an offensive weapon.

Detective Constable Matthew Harris said: “This was a horrific ordeal for the members of staff who were threatened and also for the wider community in Kidderminster who were understandably shocked by the incident.

“I want to thank the local community for their support while we carried out our enquiries and I’m pleased that we were able to quickly identify and arrest the suspects.”

Soley of Stourbridge Road and Buckley of no fixed abode are due to be sentenced on Friday, June 10.
