A STUDENT from Kidderminster will be cycling up to 80 miles a day for more than a week to mark the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.

Alex Brown, a Year 12 student at Holy Trinity School and Sixth Form Centre in Kidderminster, will be cycling the perimeter of Wales and the West Region of the Air Training Corps.

He will be concluding his challenge by the four-day bank holiday weekend.

The 17-year-old is a Flight Sergeant with the 451 (Stourbridge) Squadron and has been training hard for his epic undertaking which will see him cycle a total of 600 miles and undertake an ascent of 33,000 feet, higher than Mount Everest. He is hoping to raise £5,000.

Alex said: “I know I’m trying to raise funds for my squadron, but I also want to showcase just how much support and encouragement the Air Cadets offer when it comes to challenging yourself and taking on adventures.

“I would also like to thank Mrs Leek-Wright and all my teachers at Holy Trinity School for their continued support.”

Over the year Alex has graduated as a Qualified Aerospace Instructor in April 2022 after 7-months of study and a week of assessments, presentations, exams and interviews at RAF Cranwell. He then travelled directly from there to Snowdonia in Wales to complete his Gold DofE expedition.

Alex also completed an amazing year as a Lord Lieutenant's Cadet and was selected as British Forces Broadcasting Services Cadet of the Week, with his latest appointment being made Deputy Head Student within Holy Trinity School.

Holy Trinity Headteacher, Pamela Leek-Wright said: “Alex is a remarkable young man who epitomises what hard work and determination can enable you to achieve. We are all extremely proud of him for both his endeavours and in his role as deputy head student - an excellent role model and one to inspire all students to aspire.”
