PLANS for a new three-storey residential building for short-term accommodation units have been revealed.

Wyre Forest District Council is looking to build the facility at the corner of Castle Road and New Road in Kidderminster.

The plans include 20 ensuite accommodation units along with office space, associated car parking and landscaping.

There would also be a shared kitchen diner and lounge area on each floor and an outside space for residents.

The council says the building would have a "contemporary feel with simple architectural details" and "respect the character of the nearby Green Street Conservation area."

The site is currently a council-owned pay and display car park for around 38 vehicles.

There has been a reduction in the number of people using the car park after the council introduced changes to its parking season tickets.

These can now be used at any of the town centre car parks which includes those closer to the town centre.

Letters and information leaflets are being sent to properties surrounding the proposed development site. The owners and residents are being invited to comment on the plans before the planning application is submitted.

Kate Bailey, head of strategic growth at Wyre Forest District Council said: “The council is facing a growing demand to help people find temporary accommodation.

"This proposed development would offer purpose-built, good quality, well-managed accommodation.

"It would help people get back on their feet, while we help them to secure longer term housing. It would also help the council save money. This is because if we don’t have enough short-term accommodation space, we have to use more expensive commercial options".

PSP Wyre Forest LLP is acting on behalf of the council and hopes to submit the planning application next month.

The council wants the building to be open in 2023 and work to start before the end of the year.
