A PLAN to build more than 300 new homes off Pearl Lane in Areley Kings will go before the council's planning committee next week.

Barratt Homes proposes to build 329 houses on land to the west of Pearl Lane, which includes 82 "affordable units."

Barratt Homes has said the plans would bring much-needed homes to the area.

A petition was previously launched by residents to try and halt development on the site.

Derek Duggan, who started the petition, said he was "fearful of congestion" if the site was used for development.

He outlined fears about a lack of school placements, the Roman remains on the site, the field's history of flooding, and the impact the development will have on public transport.

Mr Duggan said that residents were also disappointed by the decision of Wyre Forest District Council to approve the local plan earlier this year, which allocates green belt land for development.

A 200-member strong group, the Areley Kings Save Pearl Lane & Dunley Road from Development, was set up in an attempt to remove the Pearl Lane site from the local plan.

The Pearl Lane plan will go before Wyre Forest District Council's planning committee on Tuesday (June 21).
