POLICE are warning people in the Franche Road area of Kidderminster to be on their guard after reports of suspicious behaviour.

Officers said that man had been knocking on the doors of elderly people asking for money for a taxi to visit his wife in hospital, causing concern.

The incidents have led to police warning people not to open their doors to people they do not recognise or are not expecting to call on them.

PCSO Alice Owen-Jones put out a warning under the heading 'Franche Road area – suspicious circumstances' stating: "Do not open the door to those you are not expecting or do not recognise, if you do please consider a door chain or bar and carefully check the callers identity.

"If in doubt keep them out."

The man who was knocking on doors is described as a tall, slim, white male with greying hair who was wearing joggers and a t-shirt.

PCSO Owen-Jones added: "If you would like a ‘no cold caller’ window stick for you or a family member, please attend the front counter at Kidderminster Police Station from Monday to Thursdays from 8.30am till 4.30pm and on Sundays from 10am till 4pm to request one."

The message went out on the West Mercia Police's Neighbourhood Alert system.
