WORRIED visitors to Wyre Forest have been assured that the removal of much loved Gruffalo sculptures is only a temporary measure.

The iconic figures which have been the subject of countless cuddles and endless selfies have now come to the end of their life

As a result, six brand new sculptures are being readied to replace them and should be inserted in Wyre Forest this week.

The original sculptures have reached the end of the road and will be retired from view.

Each of the new sculptures will be based on a different character from the best selling picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

Mouse, Fox, Owl, Snake, Gruffalo’s Child and the Gruffalo himself are set to be hidden in the wood and can be found along the yellow walking route which is also home to the family activity trail.

The theme of the family trail changes every year with 2022 to be known as the Superworm Trail, based on the children’s book by the same author.

Forestry England’s Megan Coles, who is the recreation manager for Wyre Forest said: “We’re sad to say goodbye to our old sculptures but they’re made from natural materials and so they do come to the end of their life when exposed to the elements for so long.

“We’re sure the new sculptures are going to be very popular with people of all ages and will be a great addition to the family offer that we have here in Wyre Forest”.

Young followers of the Gruffalo can also take part in the Gruffalo Orienteering at Wyre Forest which comprises of a fun-type map reading challenge which is designed to help children develop their navigational skills.
