A MEMORIAL space in Cookley has been left charred after a fire broke out.
Just after 2 pm on August 3 firefighters were called to a blaze on open land next to Cookley Sports and Social Club’s cricket pitch on Lea Lane.
Grass and planted saplings were involved in the fire, but it is hoped the saplings will survive.
The area was created as a memorial space by residents and Cookley Rainbows Group.
A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire Service said: “Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wyre Forest Fire Station, including a Landrover crew, were called at 14:04 on 3 August to a fire in the open in Lea Lane, Cookley.
“Around 30 sq m of grass and undergrowth was well alight and this was extinguished using beaters and a lance from the Landrover.
“There were no casualties and no other emergency services attended.”
