A FUNDRAISER has been launched to help renovate a long-running social club which has fallen into disrepair.

Wolverley Sports and Social Club, which has been described as a “focal point for the community,” is appealing for donations to fund much-needed repairs.

Ian Mobley, chairman of the social club, said it’s due to being “hampered” by a lack of funding, with the club “just keeping its head above water.”

He said: “We are in serious need of repairs to the roof which in bad weather leaks to the extent that the practice area for the darts is sometimes unplayable due to rainwater.

“This has the knock-on effect of damage from water ingress causing issues within the club itself.

“We have seen an increase in use of the club over the past few years and wish to build on this success but we are hampered by lack of funds to make good any damage”.

“We have recently set up a crowdfunding site to try and raise £5000 to go towards much-needed repairs. Any help would be much appreciated”.

People can donate to the fundraiser via JustGiving.

The club, located off Shatterford Lane, was built circa 1950 to commemorate the heroes returning from the second world war.

It boasts several bowls teams, a football section, darts teams and a fishing section.
