THE owner of a Stourport jewellery shop has branded a failed break-in as "brazen" and "farcical."

Mantons of Stourport released CCTV footage of the blunder, where two were seen attempting to ram the shop door open with a car and a piece of wood.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning (August 15).

Shop owner and jeweller Russell Hinton described those involved as "idiots"

He said: "I've been doing this for thirty years - when people try you just up your security levels".

He decided to check his CCTV after noticing a small crack in the door on Monday morning - the only damage caused.

He added: "It looks to me like a big chunk of wood they've had up against the wall, and they've tried to reverse back to get the door open.

"It beggars belief. It's just farcical".

Mr Hinton said that police have been informed about the incident.

The shop previously appeared on a TV crime show about catching crooks in the act.

It featured in an episode of BBC One's Caught Red Handed, a show which looks at new ways in which police and members of the public are bringing criminals to justice.

The episode follows an overnight taking place at the Stourport jewellery shop in January where a burglar stole rings and earrings worth £10,000 in total
