CYCLING CLUB - There are two rides this Sunday. The A rides starts at 8am and climbs The Lawley Mountain, near Church Stretton. The B ride starts at 9.30am and visits Goons Hill near Abbotts Morten. Both rides leave from The Green, Blakebrook, opposite the hospital. All cyclists will be welcome and should bring a packed lunch.

On Tuesday evening there is a slide show of a visit to Southern Patagonia at New Meeting House, Church Street. Doors open at 7.30pm. PHOENIX CLUB - George Mills, who worked as a warder at Long Lartin prison for several years, gave an insight into the life of a prisoner serving a life sentence, when he spoke at the February meeting.

Tuesday, March 18 is the date of the AGM and a talk by Katharine Butterworth entitled around and about'. Meet at 2pm at Trinity Church Centre. Annual subs are due on that date.

SOROPTIMISTS - At the club's recent supper meeting, the guest speaker was Chris Green from Friends of the Earth in the West Midlands.

He explained that there are currently up to 30 groups working on various issues and that they had achieved past successes in campaigning against proposals such as the Hagley bypass and the incinerator.

Mr Green promoted the Friends current campaign called The Big Ask' which will be lobbying the government for results from their Climate Change Bill. Questions from members followed.

Organised by club members with support from Kidderminster and District Lions and Bewdley Rotary Club, the Casino Royale evening held at Areley Kings Village Hall raised more than £1,100 towards the work of Asha Wyre Forest, based in Kidderminster. The centre gives practical advice to local women who are unable, due to social barriers or discrimination, to access mainstream service provision.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY - March meetings are as follows: 12 - speaker Mr Tim Morris at Kidderminster Town Hall; 26, a lecture by the president of the society, Mr Simon Buteux.

Meetings are held at St George's Church Annexe, Radford Avenue, Kidderminster at 7.30pm. Visitors welcome on payment of a small fee.
