OLDER schoolchildren are giving younger pupils a helping hand at playtime.

Foley Park Community Primary School year five pupils have been planning surprise fun and games for the children in years one and two for the past two weeks.

The older children have been trained to set up several outdoor activities, which can be played safely in the playground at afternoon breaktimes.

Wyre Forest District Council's leisure department staff taught a handful of games to the 14 youngsters who are now running the sessions in school each day.

Every morning, the year fives on duty introduce themselves but the year ones and twos do not find out which game they will play until the break bell rings at 2.20pm.

Rachel Roberts, deputy headteacher, said: "The pupils select the apparatus and set up the game so it's their responsibility but members of staff are there for safety reasons."
