A KEEN Kidderminster angler says that catching one of the world’s biggest goldfish was “just luck.”

Andy Hackett, from Offmore, caught the 67-pound beast whilst on a fishing trip in France earlier this month.

The giant goldfish, known as The Carrot, is a hybrid between a leather carp and a Koi carp.

Mr Hackett, a director at Kidderminster company A & S Rigging, landed the fish at Bluewater Lakes in the Champagne region of France.

Following the epic feat, the 43-year-old told The Shuttle: “Sometimes you just get lucky. There is skill involved but a lot of it is just luck”.

He said although it’s not the largest fish he’s caught, it’s up there with them.

He added: “I’m quite used to them – I do catch quite a few large ones”.

The goldfish was released back into the water at the lake for another intrepid angler to catch.

Mr Hackett, who has been fishing since he was a young boy, said the attention has been non-stop after catching The Carrot.

The story has spread across social media and the world - featuring in American and Australian news.

Fellow anglers and other social media users have been reacting to the catch and congratulating Mr Hackett.

One Facebook user said: "Have seen it jump a few times when I've been there but didn't realise the size of it. That's a stunner! Well done".

Another said: "Well Done Andy on the capture of the stunning Carrot. Nice to see her out at long last".

Another said: "Got to be one of the biggest koi about don’t think I’ve seen bigger."

One said: "What a beautiful fish. Top angling Andy well done buddy."
