A NEW warm hub has opened its doors in Kidderminster town centre to help those struggling to heat their homes this winter.

The project, which has been set up by Weaver's Wharf Shopping Centre, is located at the old Shoe Zone unit at 16 Vicar Street.

Jackie Roberts, manager at the shopping centre, said the hub is aimed at anyone struggling with their heating bills and hopes it will bring the community together.

Jackie told The Shuttle: "We want everybody to be safe this Christmas.

"There are two-parent families that are both working that are struggling. It's going to be helping a much wider section of the community this year”.

She said it was hard work to get the vacant site open again, but is pleased it's back in public use.

She added: "It's a brilliant opportunity to bring the whole community together".

Warm hubs have been opening in towns and cities across the country to help families and individuals in need of support through the cost of living crisis.

The Vicar Street hub in the town centre opened at 11am on Wednesday (December 14). Kidderminster Mayor Kevin Gale cut a ceremonial ribbon to officially opened the hub.

To start with, the hub will be open between 10.30am and 3.00pm from Monday to Saturday and will serve hot drinks and biscuits.

Volunteers are hoping to extend the hours and serve warm snacks in the new year.

The hub has been praised by members of the public on social media, with many hailing it as a "brilliant" idea. Many have also been offering their support.

Wyre Forest District Council also has a list of warm spaces available to residents on its website, with locations including Bewdley, Stourport and Kidderminster library.
