A PLAN for a new housing estate has been green-lit by Wyre Forest District Council's planning committee following concerns about traffic and flooding.

Owl Homes submitted a planning application for 41 new homes off Habberley Road on the edge of Bewdley, near West Midland Safari Park.

The homes will comprise a range of sizes from one to four bedrooms, predominantly in conventional two-storey houses in detached, semi-detached and terraced layouts. Ten of the new homes will also be affordable.

Voicing concerns from residents, Councillor John Byng said in a planning meeting this week: "Traffic congestion is of major concern to residents, especially when other developments in the area have been completed. Congestion at the roundabout on Kidderminster Road, already bad now, will be even heavier".

Other issues included screening, the proximity of the development to existing properties, and flooding.

Councillor Fran Oborski praised plans to install air-source heat pumps in the homes.

She moved a motion for approval, subject to conditions including a further flood risk assessment.

She said: "I find it really exciting that a developer is actually coming forward wanting to put no gas supplies and have air-source heat pumps in every house".

It was seconded by Councillor Vicky Caulfield, who said: "The heat pumps will not only reduce the CO2 but they will be nice, warm, cosy homes and cheap to heat hopefully for the residents".

The motion was carried following a vote by councillors.
