A POPULAR Stourport shop is set to close for good after falling on hard times.

Pot Luck, a general store located on High Street, has been described as a “treasure trove of useful bits and bobs.”

Owner Dave Matthews, aged 67, has decided to close the shop after 16 years in business, lamenting a loss of footfall in the town centre.

He said: "It's more like a community service than a shop. We always took the time to look after our customers.

"We are just not making any money - we are losing money.

"The town's just lost it - the footfall isn't there anymore. It's a shame really.

"It looks like it's going to get worse in Stourport".

The owner said he's helping one worker find employment in the town, whilst others have already found alternative jobs.

Mr Matthews also runs two sister shops in Bewdley and Ludlow, which will not be affected. He has thanked his Stourport customers for their support over the years.

Residents have been reacting to the news of the closure on the "We Love Stourport-on-Severn Past and Present Day" Facebook page.

Ian Pardoe said: "Stourport is going to be a ghost town soon."

Lorna Burrell said: "What a shame, be nothing left soon."

Rachelle Hornby said: "Gutted, you can virtually get every little nick-nack you need in there."

Sally Eastwood said: "That's a shame, it's such a treasure trove of useful bits and bobs".

Andy Rudge described it as the "Best shop on the high street."

Jon Portman said: "That is sad. I love that shop and have had many bargains."

Elizabeth Watt said: “Very sad to hear this, they sold things you couldn't get anywhere else”.

Pot Luck in Stourport will close at the end of February.
