Chris King, chief executive of the Severn Academies Educational Trust, which Baxter College and Stourport High School are a part of, said: “This is the first of four days of planned strike action by the National Education Union to affect this area and members of the union from our schools will be taking part.

“It is not a decision they have taken lightly but is, in their view, the only course of action open to them in an attempt to press home to the government the gross underfunding affecting schools nationwide, both in terms of pay and investment.

“All our staff are working hard to minimise the impact on our pupils.

“Our two secondary schools, Baxter College and Stourport High School will be open for vulnerable students in Years 7 to 10 and all students in Years 11 to 13.

“Just one of our six primary schools will be affected, that being Hartlebury CE Primary School which will be open to all pupils, except those in Years 4 and 5.

“Parents of affected year groups were given advanced notice so they could make suitable childcare arrangements.”
