SHUTTLE readers had their say about what shops they would like to see in the town centre.

Whether it’s a big high street chain or a collection of independent retailers, residents want to see some new shops added to Kidderminster’s portfolio.

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, two suggestions came out on top - budget clothing shop Primark and Home Bargains.

Readers think having these big High Street names will increase footfall in the town and draw even more chains to open shops.

However, many readers want to see more independent retailers set up in Kidderminster.

Mish Kimani said: “I think a selection of quality stalls with farm foods or Artisan goods would be nice.

"I'd put them up the left side of Tesco along the river stour alternatively a permanent market in the piano building.”

Naomi Veasey: “In an ideal world I’d like an indoor market where local small businesses can trade daily but I think first we need to get more people using the town centre again and a Primark would definitely draw people in.”

Meanwhile, Sarah Goodfield shared her interesting idea to put empty units back into use.

She said: “The larger units and premises- there's loads of empty ones, could be partitioned into smaller ones for smaller businesses.

“Local crafts people could use them. And as for the big premises could be turned into accommodation for [the] homeless?”

While Bex James said she would like to see more experience-based shops. She said: “We don’t need more places to buy stuff we need more places we can be!

“This means experience-based shops so you go somewhere for a drink, to read a book, play a game and can also get daily items too.

“We’re missing the human connection element of retail.”
