MORE than 900 rubber ducks were thrown into the River Severn as a popular race returned.

The Bewdley Duck Race, run by Kidderminster and District Lions, raised more than £2000 for charity.

The event is usually held on New Year's Day but has taken place on the Easter Bank Holiday Monday for the last two years. This has been due to high river levels during winter.

The winning duck at this year's competition belonged to four-year-old Willow Lunnon.

Kidderminster and District Lions president Ron Cross said: "We were quite pleased with the event.

"A lot of people turned up in spite of the bad weather. We raised a lot of money for helping people in the community.

"We were happy there were a lot of people enjoying themselves.

"I want to thank all the people who came and entered a duck".

Members of the Wyre Forest Canoe Club collected the 936 ducks after the race.
