TRIBUTES have been paid to former Kidderminster Harriers commercial manager Phil Wright who has died at the age of 75.

Mr Wright was a dedicated fan of the football club and a supporter of Severn Valley Railway and Wyre Forest CAMRA.

Born and bred in Kidderminster, Mr Wright attended Bennett Street and Hartlebury Grammar schools, where he was an active member of the Hartlebury 58 Re-union Club.

Over the years, he participated in many local groups, including the Harrier's independent supporters' trust, Kidderminster Cricket Club and the Monday Night Table Tennis Club.

Mr Wright's family said he had two "lifelong passions" – the Severn Valley Railway, where he volunteered, and local, non-league football. He supported the Harriers "through thick and thin."

Mr Wright also followed his son Andy and grandson Jamie wherever they were playing football.

A minute’s silence was held by Bewdley Town FC and a minute’s applause at both Stourbridge FC and the Harriers on the weekend.

In a statement, his family said: "The well-known Kidderminster character, affectionately known as “boss” by many, will be sorely missed.

"His wife, Ruth and the family have been blown away by the outpouring of love and support from so many of his friends and groups and would like to thank each and every one of them".

Kidderminster Harriers said: "As well as working behind the scenes a number of years ago, Phil was a lifelong Harriers fan who continued to support the club long after his working days at Aggborough came to end. During that time, he enjoyed many successful seasons watching the Reds during the 80s and 90s.

"Phil backed us at home games here at Aggborough right up to passing just prior to the Easter weekend".

"Everyone here at the club extends their best wishes and sympathies to Phil’s family and loved ones at this difficult time".

Mr Wright passed away on Thursday, April 6.
