SEVERAL roads in Hereford city centre will be closed this weekend for an annual event.

This is to allow the traditional annual St George’s Day scout parade through the town on Sunday, April 23.

The event will involve the closure of some roads and there will be traffic disruption between 2.15pm and 3pm, Herefordshire Council said.

Quay Street, Castle Street, St Ethelbert Street, St Owen Street between Cantilupe Road and St Peters Square, Union Street between Gaol Street and St Owen Street, St Peters Street and Broad Street are all on the parade route and will be closed to traffic for the event.

In previous years, hundreds of people have been involved in the popular parade that involves members of the scouting movement from Hereford and surrounding areas.

Lord Baden Powell, founder of the scouts, chose St George as the patron saint of the scouts due to his courage in the face of adversity.
