THE new Mayor of Kidderminster has been elected at an annual town council meeting.

Councillor Darren Chambers was elected as town mayor at St Georges Church in front of a large audience earlier this week.

Councillor Chambers, who has served as the deputy mayor to councillor Kevin Gale for the past 12 months, responded to his election at the meeting and the audience with an acceptance of office speech.

The speech saw him thank the outgoing mayor for his year of service and noted that all councillors will need to work together to achieve the best results for the town and the townsfolk.

During his mayoral year, councillor Chambers will be looking to raise funds and awareness for local charity “Reach Out Wyre Forest,” which provides mental health support to the young people.

Councillor Chambers appointed reverend Laura Betson as the mayor’s chaplain.

His wife, Sally Chambers, will be the mayoress for the year.

Councillor George Connolly was elected as the deputy mayor.
