EMERGENCY services including armed police officers rushed to Bewdley town centre following a "report of a shooting."

West Mercia Police confirmed they were called to Dog Lane at around 5.50pm on Monday (June 12).

The force sent out armed police in response to the "shooting" report - which was later found to be "untrue."

A spokesperson for the force said: "Given the nature of the incident armed officers were immediately deployed, however on arrival it was established that the report was untrue, but not malicious.

"The person who made the call is now receiving appropriate support from health services".

West Midlands Ambulance Services sent an air ambulance out to the scene and other emergency crews.

Ambulance staff assessed a woman at a private address, who was given self-care advice.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.47pm to an incident at a private address on Dog Lane in Bewdley.

"One ambulance, two paramedic officers, a Critical Care Car from Midland Air Ambulance and the Midland Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene.

"Upon arrival we found a woman who was assessed by ambulance staff and did not require hospital treatment, she received self-care advice before being discharged at the scene.”
