A STOURPORT care home resident is celebrating her 104th birthday today (Friday, June 16).

Violet Kathrens has been spending her milestone birthday with family at The Wharf Care Centre.

The eldest of eight children, she was born in Factory Cottage in East Boldre, New Forest on June, 16, 1919.

She once worked as a cook for English actress Nelly Bromley and also worked in factories during the war effort.

She later moved to Bartley Green where she married Norman and gave birth to her son Derek. Violet has two grandsons and one granddaughter.

She worked as a cook in schools and as she got older, moved to Kidderminster to be closer to family.

Her granddaughter Sara said that she's a "Hampshire girl at heart" and has "fantastic memories" of living there.

On her grandmother's birthday, Sara said: "She looks fabulous. She's had her hair done".

She praised the care centre after members of staff visited Violet on their day off to give her presents and a cake.

They have also arranged a day out for her to go to Scotty's Donkeys & Animal Park near Bridgnorth.

Sara added: "Everybody here is absolutely fantastic".

The family said that Violet's secret to reaching 104 is "looking after herself well."
