A KIDDERMINSTER nursery is celebrating after turning its fortunes around by achieving a 'good' Ofsted rating.

Little Learners Nursery at Bayton CofE Primary School was given the positive score after being inspected in May by the education watchdog.

It follows an earlier inspection in January this year, where the nursery was rated 'inadequate' after concerns were raised over safeguarding and leadership.

In the January report, the inspector said: "The provider and manager do not understand their duty to inform the Disclosure and Barring Service when they believe that a member of staff has harmed a child".

The inspector also highlighted that internal doors were left open at times, including to the kitchen and staff toilet, where cleaning products are stored.

Nursery manager Jayne Tramontana said that a member of staff was suspended after a safeguarding concern was raised.

Now, the nursery has been given a 'good' rating in a follow-up inspection, with Ofsted stating that “arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”

The inspector said: “Leaders and managers have made significant improvements since the last inspection. They have improved the safeguarding policy and procedures.

“They have a good understanding of the procedure to follow in the event of an allegation being made against a member of staff.

“All staff are confident with the procedure to follow should they have concerns about a child's welfare.

"Managers and staff ensure that any risks within the environment are identified and removed or minimised".

The inspector added: "Parents are happy with the service provided by the nursery. They comment how much their children enjoy attending and how much progress they have made since starting at the nursery”.

Jayne said: "We are all delighted at the report.

“I couldn't be more proud of the hard-working staff who work as a team daily to provide the very best care and education for our children."
