A POPULAR countryside café and plant centre near Kidderminster is set to close after a struggle with rising costs.

Owners of The Larch Barn, located off Bridgnorth Road in Cleobury Mortimer, announced the permanent closure "with a heavy heart."

They said it had become "impossible" to continue trading, in part due to the cost of living crisis.

In a statement, the café said: "It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we are announcing the permanent closure of The Larch Barn with immediate effect.

"We wish to say a big thank you to all our customers over the years, whether you popped in when passing by once, or were one of our lovely regular visitors.

"Your support has meant the world to us, and we are grateful for every coffee, cake, meal, and pot of tea we have served here.

"This decision has not been an easy one to make and as a family we are devastated.

"We have been struggling with staffing, rising food costs, utilities, and the cost of living and sadly, despite our best efforts, it has simply become impossible to continue trading".

They added: "Hospitality as an industry is tough for so many currently, and we would encourage anyone reading this to please visit your local cafes, pubs, and restaurants when you are able to, as too many are closing.

"We need to thank our loyal staff for their support and brilliant work, especially at this difficult time".

Customers expressed their sadness at the news on social media.

Rosemary Morris said: "So sorry to hear this sad news, we’ve loved coming and having lunch or coffee and cakes. A great loss to the area."

Rachel Caseley said: "Absolutely heartbroken for you guys.

"Always had brilliant meals here and loved the evenings we've had there too. Will be very sad to not enjoy going here again."

Claire Williams added: "Such a great shame. We’ve visited many times and always enjoyed the food and surroundings".
