A TOUCHING mural on a pub wall described as a "poignant tribute to the fallen" is now complete.

The art installation at The Black Star pub in Stourport, which is located near the town's cenotaph, was painted in tribute to soldiers in the armed forces.

Owners of the Mitton Street establishment, Maria and Andy Gooding, commissioned local tattoo artist Gareth Way to paint the large mural.

Mr Way said he was "honoured" to work on the project. He said: "It was about 23 hours of work over the course of a week.

"To be able to put my name to a large art installation is such a personal pleasure. It's been quite a long time in the making.

"It's beautiful to read all the praise we have received".

Mrs Gooding added: "We've done it as a mark of respect to the soldiers and we think it's nice for people to look at".

"We have family who are ex-forces.

"We have had people outside taking pictures today. It's definitely got some impact.

"People have said how nice it is - we are really pleased with it all.

"We are now looking at doing more - that will be in the future".

Residents have taken to social media to share their reactions to the art installation.

Jonathan Cooper said: "I've walked past this tribute a few times now, and I find it quite a wonderful thing.

"The thought that has gone into creating this piece of art is only matched by the talent that's created it.

"A wonderful and poignant tribute to the fallen."

Mark Roberts said: "Superb artwork and very respectful to our armed forces past and present".

Tania James added: "Absolutely awesome work, brilliant art work and a wonderful way to remember those who served for their country".
