BAGS of baking soda were spilt onto a road after a lorry crashed into a bridge near Bewdley.

The lorry shed its load, which included hazardous materials, onto Kinlet Road in Far Forest this morning.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service contained the leak from 15 spilt bags of sodium bicarbonate powder to stop it from reaching the watercourse.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said they were called out at 10.43am today (Friday, October 6).

They said: “Crews from Wyre Forest, Bromsgrove and Droitwich Fire Stations attended Kinlet Road alongside the environmental protection unit from Tenbury Wells and Shropshire colleagues from Cleobury Mortimer.

“A road traffic collision had resulted in approximately 15 bags of sodium bicarbonate powder being spilt on the roadway along with damage to bridge brickwork.

“The crews successfully contained the leak from the spilt bags to prevent the powder reaching the watercourse".

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police added: "We were called to Kinlet Road in Far Forest shortly before 10.15am this morning following a report of that a lorry had collided with a bridge.
