THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised to support a Cookley dad with terminal cancer and his family.

Craig Hackett-Driver, aged 43, was diagnosed with cancer in January this year and has faced several bouts of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The father-of-three was informed that his cancer is terminal, with the NHS no longer able to treat the tumour.

The family have been exploring alternative treatment, which is available in the US, that may slow the growth of the tumour and prolong Craig's time with his young family.

The community has rallied together in support of the family, with Craig's kickboxing gym and the local sports club raising money to help pay for alternative treatment.

Cookley Cricket Club, who play at the Cookley Sports and Social Club, arranged a charity match and have raised £1000 towards the fund. The club hopes to raise more for the family with additional events and wants to continue fundraising for other families in need in the future.

Vicky Rudd, a close friend of the family, started a JustGiving page which has received more than £4,300 worth of donations.

Craig's wife Debbie Hackett-Driver, aged 42, has thanked those who have helped raise money.

She said: "Every little helps as it means Craig will be able to make more memories with his children.

"It's hard to put into words but it's the worst time of our lives.

"But it's also brought some of the happiest times to see the level of support. We are so grateful".

She added: "He's fighting like you would not believe.

"That man has so much strength. We are all extremely proud of him".
