A MAN was taken to hospital after a severe fire ripped through the loft of a Kidderminster house.

Emergency services rushed to a blaze at a home on Georgian Way yesterday evening (Wednesday, October 25).

Fire crews from across Worcestershire and beyond were called to the fire, which destroyed the home’s converted loft.

The ambulance service treated a man with injuries not believed to be life threatening. He was taken to Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

A fire brigade spokesperson said: “Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Wyre Forest and Bromsgrove Fire Stations – plus a West Midlands Fire Service crew from Stourbridge and a Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Kinver were called to a house fire with persons reported in Georgian Way, Kidderminster at 18:33.

“A severe fire, which had destroyed the converted loft of a three-storey property was extinguished by six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using two hosereel jets augmented from a hydrant supply. Positive pressure ventilation was used to clear smoke".

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called by the fire service at 6.40pm on Wednesday to a fire at a property on Georgian Way in Kidderminster. One ambulance and two paramedic officers attended the scene.

“Upon arrival we found a man with injuries not believed to be life threatening. He received treatment at the scene and was conveyed to Alexandra Hospital for further assessment.”

After the fire broke out, one resident said: “I can’t believe it. A neighbour came knocking on my door to tell me there was a fire. 

“I just came running out to lots of smoke and flames. It was so scary.” 

Another added: “I heard about the fire and came rushing home from work as I was worried about my home. 

“I’m just so shocked.”
