A police community support officer has teamed up with two of the biggest retailers in Kidderminster to help struggling families this Christmas.

PCSO Andy Stevens, from the Broadwaters Safer Neighbourhood Team, has stepped in to give a helping hand to those feeling the pinch of the cost-of-living crisis.

Mr Stevens approached a supermarket and a toy store that generously gifted much-needed food and toys to be bagged up and delivered to families in the community over the coming days.

He said: "We want to make the lives of vulnerable people and those struggling to make ends meet a little easier and to remind them they aren't alone. People in the police and in their community care about them.

"These goodwill bags will have the essentials that they might either not have access to or will cut corners on the shopping list and not buy.

"There are also toys for those children who otherwise might not get a present off Father Christmas. We will be delivering them to those who need them most starting this week."

PCSO Stevens also worked closely with Wyre Forest District Council to identify people who will need the bags.

Senior Housing Pathway Officer at Wyre Forest District Council, Scott Campbell, said: "The council's Housing Pathway team are always happy to work with our local policing team to assist some of our most vulnerable clients with Christmas hampers, kindly donated by two local stores which we hope will provide some relief this season of goodwill."

Mr Stevens added: "The two retailers have both been extremely generous and this couldn't have happened without their understanding and genuine concern for our community's most vulnerable."
