A PENSIONER says she's "trapped" inside her home due to flooding as river levels continue to rise.

Beales Corner in Bewdley has been hit by flooding following heavy rainfall which has caused the River Severn to swell.

Wribbenhall resident Irene Buxton has once again been affected by the flooding, which she says has been made worse by temporary barriers not being put in place on Beales Corner.

The Environment Agency has not deployed temporary defences due to the construction of permanent flood barriers.

Mrs Buxton, aged 73, who lives with her husband Mick, said: "We can't get out - it's too deep.

"It's worse this time because we've got no flood barriers up. We haven't got the temporary barriers anymore because they are building the permanent ones.

"We have got no protection at all here. It's not great".

Beales Corner has experienced three consecutive years of flooding in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Mrs Buxton said she's previously spent five days stuck in her home due to flooding.

"We'll survive. We always do," she said.

She is looking forward to the completion of the Environment Agency's flood risk management scheme.

Construction work started in summer 2023 and it is anticipated to take around 18 months to two years to complete.

Mrs Buxton added: "I can't wait - I just wish they'd hurry up and get them finished.

"It should have been done a long time ago. At least they've started.

Lindsay Wilson, who owns a property on Beales Corner, started the Wribbenhall Residents Flood Defence Committee with Mrs Buxton more than a decade ago.

The 62-year-old added: "This is the price we pay to have the permanent barriers put in so I'm okay with it.

"I can't do anything about it, I can't get worked up about it. I'm hoping my pumps will do their job".

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "We have previously worked with residents to provide property-level protection in this area.

"Environment Agency teams are on the ground, working to minimise the impacts of flooding where possible.

"Rainfall over the past several days means that we are seeing multiple peaks along the Severn, we expect the last of these to pass through Bewdley on Friday".
