The council has revealed a new government-funded programme that aims to encourage people considering switching careers.

Worcestershire County Council is pushing its Skills Bootcamps initiative to empower people looking to switch careers.

The scheme is built around its slogan: ‘It's Never Too Late to Change Direction’.

The intensive, 16-week training programmes are designed to reskill or upskill individuals aged 19 or over for industries with a strong demand for workers.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, cabinet member with responsibility for skills, investment and economy, said: "We want to help people gain the skills they need to meet the challenges of tomorrow and, working with fantastic training providers and county businesses we can achieve this.

"We are dedicated to supporting individuals in Worcestershire as they navigate career transitions.

"With funding from government’s ‘Skills For Life’ initiative we can continue the hugely successful Skills Bootcamp program across Worcestershire, reaffirming our commitment to foster a skilled and resilient workforce."

Abigail Jones, the scheme's manager, echoed this sentiment, saying: "We are thrilled to see people doing Skills Bootcamps and going on to achieve great things.

"It’s never too late to change direction and we take pride in providing people in Worcestershire the opportunities to do that."

The continuation of the bootcamps in has been afforded through a £1 million funding boost from the government.

Around 200 county residents have already taken part in the programmes.

In addition, businesses from the area can also receive subsidised opportunities to reskill their workforce through the programme.
