A WOMAN says she's been "struggling to breathe" whilst living in a "disgusting" mouldy flat and wants to move out.

Julie Reece lives at Olympian Court in the Horsefair area of Kidderminster and says she's been suffering from chest infections for the last few years.

Ms Reece, aged 59, believes it's due to black mould which has taken over her home.

She has contacted Community Housing, the Wyre Forest housing association, about the issue and says she's been trying to move to another property for three years as she is worried about her health.

Ms Reece, who lives with her 35-year-old son, first moved into the flat five years ago and says the mould has been infesting her walls, carpet, bed, wardrobe, blinds and even her clothes.

She even says she's been sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, due to the mould growing on her bed.

Ms Reece, who is currently unemployed, said: "I've been trying for three years to move out. For the last three years I have had a chest infection.

"It's horrible. I wake up every morning and see all that. It's depressing.

"It's disgusting - it's getting me really down.

"I've not been sleeping in the bedroom - I've been sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room".

She says her flat was last redecorated two years ago, and although the mould was cleaned earlier this month, it keeps returning.

A spokesperson for Community Housing said: "We’re really sorry to hear that Mrs Reece is experiencing these problems and we are doing everything we can to resolve this.

"A home visit has been arranged for this Friday and we are currently organising works to deal with the issues with the roof and guttering.

"We will ensure that Mrs Reece is compensated for any damage to furniture and fittings as a result of this.

"We take reports of damp and mould really seriously.”
