A pre-hospital medical team that cares for seriously injured or critically unwell roadside patients has received a £5,000 donation.

Worcestershire charity, Mercia Accident Rescue Service (MARS), has been donated a substantial sum from The Cadbury Foundation.

MARS, which provides emergency medical care to severely sick individuals in a variety of roadside situations, from vehicle crashes to cardiac arrests, has been chosen by employees of renowned confectionery brand Mondelēz International, to be the recipients of this generous grant.

The grant was given as part of the organisation's ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ scheme where each year, employees are invited to nominate wellbeing-related charities close to their hearts to receive a large donation, with the final chosen charities selected via voting amongst staff.

Mondelēz International electrician Matthew Hughes said: "The MARS team work tirelessly to attend a range of major incidents across the region, and as volunteers, they give up their free time to provide life-saving and critical care.

"I’m delighted that my fellow colleagues chose them to receive this donation, so they can continue to support individuals in need during emergency and critical situations."

MARS was one of 11 charities across the UK to receive the donation this year.

The charity, run by 16 volunteer doctors, nurses and paramedics, has been providing important service to Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the Midlands for nearly 40 years.

Dr Rob Moss, Clinical Lead at MARS, said: "As a charitable team of volunteers, we rely solely on donations.

"This generous grant will significantly support us with our vital work and will allow us to invest in new kit bags and equipment, which will ultimately enable us to respond to multiple casualties across the region."

Community affairs manager at Mondelēz International, Kelly Farrell, said: "Supporting fantastic charities and projects that make a real difference to the lives of so many, is exactly what The Cadbury Foundation is all about.

"We’re proud to know that thanks to the Foundation’s help, MARS will be able to continue providing emergency help and assistance to incidents on roads across the Midlands and supporting those in need."
