A POPULAR town centre sweet shop is closed today (Monday, January 29) following a burglary.

The Sweet Jar in Kidderminster was targeted in a raid, with the front door being smashed.

The Vicar Street confectionary store announced on social media that it would not be opening today following the break-in.

The crime has been reported to West Mercia Police, who are investigating.

In a post on Facebook, the Sweet Jar said: "Unfortunately someone had a sweet tooth last night and decided to break in.

"So unfortunately we won't be open today. If anyone knows anything about this then please message us.

"It's hard enough in business at the moment without people doing this."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "A report of a burglary at the Sweet Jar on Vicar Street in Kidderminster was reported to us this morning (January 29).

"This is now being investigated".
