THE mum of a six-year-old who died in a tragic car crash outside his school says she's "overwhelmed" with the support from the community.

Tributes have been pouring in for Leo Painter, from Kidderminster, who died when the Ford Mondeo he was travelling in was in a collision with a grey BMW 3 series on the A44 in Spetchley last week.

The female driver and a woman accompanying Leo were both pronounced dead at the scene. Leo was rushed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital but died a short time later.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Sallie and Natasha Coleshill, who are friends with Leo's mum Gemma.

The money is set to help fund the wake and tributes to Leo, with money also planned to be donated to the Child Bereavement Fund. The appeal has already raised thousands of pounds.

Reacting to the outpouring of support, Gemma, aged 28, said: "I'm overwhelmed by the amount of support that I have received.

"And I’m so grateful for everyone who has donated, every little bit, to help give him the send-off he deserves".

The organiser of the fundraiser Sallie Coleshill, aged 59, from Worcester said: "Leo was a lovely boy and everybody loved him. He was just such a little character.

"It's heartbreaking. It's come as a big shock and we're just trying our best to be there for Gemma.

"Leo had been in foster care but was set to move back in with Gemma full-time by the end of the year. We're doing this fundraiser to help bring him back home to Kidderminster and any donations no matter how small will be gratefully received."

Leo had just come out of Abigail’s Place school, which is opposite Spetchley Park Gardens, when the crash happened on the A44.
